dc.description.abstract |
Economic empowerment for People with Disabilities is essential to achieving global development targets.
Cooperative societies play a significant role in fostering economic empowerment and social inclusion, yet the
participation of women with disabilities in cooperative societies remains understudied in Kenya. This study
examined the participation of women in cooperative societies in Murang’a County. The study utilized a mixed
methods approach involving online surveys, and interviews to gather data on the experiences of women with
disabilities in cooperative societies in Murang’a County. A random sample of cooperative societies in Murang’a
County was drawn. Findings indicate that cooperative societies that have adopted inclusive practices show
higher participation rates among women with disabilities, with accessibility, tailored support services, and
reduced social stigma being important factors. The study emphasizes the need for cooperative policies that
actively support disability inclusion. |
